PURPOSE:To obtain a purified macrocyclic ketone having high purity, free from coloring and odor and useful as a perfume, etc., in simple operation and good yield, by irradiating a macrocyclic ketone containing a macrocyclic diketone as an impurity with light and purifying the macrocyclic ketone. CONSTITUTION:A macrocyclic ketone containing a macrocyclic diketone as an impurity, especially diester of 2-18C straight-chain alkanoic diacid is cyclized by acyloin condensation reaction and then reduced to afford a macrocyclic ketone such as cyclopentadecanone, which is then irradiated with light such as sun light and fluorescent light and preferably about 1-10% active carbon is thrown in a solution of the macrocyclic ketone after light irradiation and the solution is stirred, filtered and treated with an active carbon in order to carry out purification to provide the aimed compound having high purity, useful as an intermediate for perfume or blending base thereof and medicine. Storage, sales, etc., of the ketone is carried out in sealed and light-cut states in order to prevent oxidation and decomposition, etc., of the ketone.
