PURPOSE:To hold cut fibers surely and keep good burning condition for a long period of time, by a method wherein the fibers of a long fiber layer are arranged horizontally or orthogonally to the sucking up direction of fuel and an irregular fiber cloth, in which the directions of fiber filament are intersected irregularly, and superposed on both surfaces or single surface of the long fiber layer to connect them integrally. CONSTITUTION:A long fiber layer 3, constituting the sucking up unit (b) of fuel, is formed so that thick thread type long fiber filaments are arranged horizontally or orthogonally to the sucking up direction of fuel to form a cloth-like layer having a predetermined thickness by braided threads 2 arranged with proper intervals. Then, resistance against the flowdown of the fuel is increased and the fuel oil holding property of the sucking up unit (b) is improved while the supply of the fuel to a combustion unit (a) is smoothened and good combustion condition may be continued. An irregular fiber filament cloth 4, in which the directions of fiber filaments are intersected irregularly, is superposed on both surfaces or single surface of the layer 3 and is connected integrally to the layer 3 with needle punch or stitch bonding. The configuration of the layer 3 way be secured by the fiber cloth 4 or the braided thread 2 and the stiffness of the same layer may be increased, therefore, the up-and-down motion of a wick, which regulates the combustion of the fuel, can be effected correctly, the collapse of the configuration of the wick can be reduced and the wick can withstand use for a long period of time.
