PURPOSE:To productively manufacture a bent tube type fluorescent lamp with a uniform shape and the good appearance by putting a mold at the heated center portion of a glass tube and bend-machining the center portion of the glass tube along the mold while pulling the glass tube with a bender chuck. CONSTITUTION:A glass tube 1 is vertically suspended and supported, the center portion of this glass tube 1 is locally heated, next a mold is put at the center portion (m) of the glass tube 1, the lower end section of the glass tube 1 is held by a bender chuck 19, the lower end section of the glass tube 1 is pulled and rotated upward by the bender chuck 19, and the glass tube 1 is bend- machined along the mold 17. No drooping deformation is generated, and even if the center portion of the glass tube 1 is bend-machined after the heating, the shape of the bend-machined portion is stabilized. Burner flames are applied from both sides of the center portion (m) of the glass tube 1 by a heating device at the center portion of the vertical glass tube 1, little glass piece is thus stuck, and the maintenance cost can be reduced.
