PURPOSE:To remarkably increase especially carotenoid pigments without inhibiting other biomass, such as increase in tomato yield, by applying a certain constant amount of a specific compound in a period when cell division and growth become vigorous, such as seeds or budding, of tomatoes. CONSTITUTION:An inorganic salt, preferably hydrochloride of a compound expressed by the formula in an amount sufficient for increasing pigments of tomatoes is applied thereto in a period when cell division and growth become vigorous, such as seeds, budding or buds, of tomatoes to increase the pigments thereof. In the case of fresh tomatoes, color is brighter and merchandise value is enhanced. In the case of processing tomatoes, yield is increased to improve productivity per unit area and processed tomatoes with a higher pigment content can be produced. The application amount of the compound expressed by formula may be adjusted to 5-50ppm concentration in applying to seeds, which may be dipped therein for 2-6hr. When application to plants is carried out in the stage of cotyledons, true leaves, etc., thereof, the compound may be adjusted to 5-50ppm, concentration and sprayed on buds or leaves of plants.
