PURPOSE:To quickly and accurately discriminate the specifications of a magnetic disk device by comparing the specification information on the disk device stored previously in said disk device with the access information given from a host computer. CONSTITUTION:When a power supply is applied, the specification information including the sector number, the head number, the cylinder number, etc., of a magnetic disk device 9 which is previously stored in a prescribed area of the device 9 is read by a processor 3 of a control part 2 and stored in a RAM 4. Then the access information is supplied via an interface control part 5 for an access to be given to the device 9 from a CPU 10. Thus the specification information stored in the RAM 4 is compared with the sector number, the head number and the cylinder number whose addresses are designated by said access information via the processor 3. Then an access is given to the device 9 as long as the access information is equal to the specification information or designates an address within the specification information.
