The coil former has an end portion respectively at its extremities, each of which portions has a respective inner surface facing the central portion. The axis of the central portion extends perpendicularly of these inner surfaces. An electric conductor is wound onto the former with its ends secured to anchor points on the first one of the two end portions. The coil is such that no part of it projects beyond a boundary plane which contains an outer surface of the first end portion and which encloses an angle greater than five degrees of arc and less than eight-five degrees of arc, relative to the axis of the central portion.
