The invention relates to a towing device for motor vehicles, particularly for private cars, comprising a receiving part 2 fixed on the vehicle and a ball neck 3 and coupling ball 4 adapted to be fitted separably therein and in which there are provided in the ball neck 3 means which, when the ball neck is inserted into the receiving part 2, ensure automatically a reciprocal clamping of these two parts, the said means being operable to release the ball neck 3, the said means consisting of a bolt 9 which is subject to spring pressure 11 and a releasing pin 17 which is likewise subject to spring pressure 18, the bolt 9 and releasing pin 17 being operatively inter-connected by a ball 19. The bolt 9 is urged by springs 11 against inclined surface 13 on the receiving part 2. This in turn causes spigots 7 on the ball neck to be urged into locating engagement with arcuate receiving recesses 8 in the receiving part 2. The bolt 9 is withdrawn by rotation of a toothed shaft 23 engaging a rack 15 on the bolt 9. Locking pin automatically causes locking of the bolt in its retracted position, and unlocking thereof when the ball neck is re-inserted. <IMAGE> |
