A process for producing a metal melt from oxide-containing ore is described. To this end, a rotary furnace through which the ore and, in countercurrent thereto, a hot reduction gas are passed, and a smelting gasifier connected to the rotary furnace and arranged downstream thereof in terms of the movement of the ore are used. In the smelting gasifier, the ore prereduced in the rotary furnace is smelted and reduced to completion by solid fuel and oxygen-containing gas supplied to the gasifier, and the reduction gas is generated there. Ore is used which has a natural grain size (particle size) distribution up to a certain grain size which depends on its reducibility. This maximum grain size is preferably in the range between 4 and 30 mm. Any lumps present in the ore, which have a grain size exceeding this are expediently crushed or screened out (separated by screeening). The reduction gas leaving the smelting gasifier entrains a fraction of fuel particles which prevents any caking of the ore particles in the rotary furnace. Further, the ore fines and fuel particles entrained with the reduction gas drawn off from the rotary furnance are separated from the reduction gas and conveyed into the smelting gasifier.
|
