PURPOSE: To obtain a stable aqueous suspension containing carbamazepin dihydrate crystal having a specific shape, and having analgesic and anticonvulsant properties and a sustained releasing property. CONSTITUTION: This stable aqueous suspension having a sustained releasing property, contains carbamazepin dihydrate crystals having approximately 10-200μm particle diameter. The suitable particle diameter for the carbamazepin is preferably in the range of approximately 20-100μm. The oral administration method of carbamazepin through this method is well tolerated and shows a markedly good preserving stability. For example, in the case of a syrup, the precipitation of the crystals of the active ingredient can not be observed for a relatively long period such as several weeks or several months. The suspension is obtained by preparing the aqueous suspension by using a suitable protecting colloid affecting the growth of the hydrated form of the carbamazepin having a suitable shape and size in the water, then adding anhydrous carbamazepin into the dispersion, and formulating the dispersion as a preparation of a liquid oral administration.
