PURPOSE: To produce a high quality product by bringing a liq. nitro compd. containing a pigment body into contact with an alkaline earth metal hypochlorite to decolorize and stabilize the nitro compd., especially nitroparaffins. CONSTITUTION: The liq. nitro compd. selected from 1-10C nitroparaffins or nitrocycloparaffins and containing the pigment body is brought into contact with the alkaline earth metal hypochlorite. Then the decolorized nitro compd. is separated. Calcium salt is suitable as the alkaline earth metal hypochlorite and granular or particular salt is suitable. A contact temp. of the nitro compd. and the hypochlorite is 0-50 deg.C preferably and pressure is normal pressure ordinary. Further, when the nitro compd. has high vapor pressure, the pressure is raised a little to keep the nitro compd. in liq. state preferably.
