INFLAMMATORY ENTEROPATHY PREVENTIVE AND THERAPEUTIC AGENT

PURPOSE:To obtain an agent for preventing or treating inflammatory enteropathy with reduced side-effects by using a zinc salt of L-carnosine. CONSTITUTION:The agent contains an L-carnosine zinc salt as an active ingredient and has excellent inhibitory actions on digestive tract hemorrhage, rectal mucosa ulcer, rectum thickening, and leukocyte infiltration. Moreover, it is very useful, because of showing very low toxicity and weak side-effects. The crystalline L-carnosine zinc salt is prepared by reaction of 1 mole of L-carnosine with 0.8 - 1.2 mole of a zinc salt and 1.6 to 2.4 moles of an alkali metal compound in an anhydrous or water-containing polar organic solvent at room temperature or with heating.
