PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a rubbing treatment of oriented films and to increase the orientation regulating force of the oriented films so as to allow the sure regulation of the orientation state of the oriented films by forming the 2nd oriented film consisting of a liquid crystal polymer on the 1st oriented film formed by an LB technique. CONSTITUTION:The oriented films 8, 9 for orienting the liquid crystal molecules in a horizontal direction are respectively formed on the electrode forming surfaces of a lower substrate 1 and an upper substrate 2. The oriented film 8 on the lower substrate 1 side is made into the two-layered films consisting of the 1st oriented film 8a formed by the LB method on an insulating film 7 and the 2nd oriented film 8b consisting of the liquid crystal polymer formed thereon. Namely, the 1st oriented film 8a is formed by polymerizing the monomolecular laminated films deposited by at least >=1 layers on the substrate 1 by the LB technique to an org. high-polymer compd. film. The 2nd oriented film 8b is formed by applying the liquid crystal polymer consisting of a resin having the nature similar to the nature of the liquid crystal in a molten state onto the 1st oriented film 8a and curing this polymer.
