The invention concerns a composite 34 which is intended for medical purposes and consists of biologically active glass 15 and calcium phosphate ceramic 26, and a process for its preparation. To prepare the composite 34, the starting materials, biologically active glass 15 and calcium phosphate ceramic 26, are mixed, compressed and fired at a temperature below 680 degree C and at an arbitrary pressure. The resulting composite forms a closely packed material where the starting materials 15, 26 have not reacted with each other. <IMAGE>
