The red-light emitting fluorescent material of Y2O3:Eu,Er is mfd. by (a) mixing 1 mol yttrium oxide (Y2O3), 0.0001-0.2 mol europium oxide (Eu2O3) and 0.0001-0.4 mol erbium oxide (Er2O3) with a mixed flux of sodium fluoride (NaF), sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) and boric acid (H3BO3), (b) firing the mixt. in a quartz or alumina crucible at 1100-1500 deg.C for 1-6 hr, and (c) cleaning the obtd. fluorescent material with 10 % thin hydrochloric acid soln., washing and drying it. The fluorescent material has an excellent emitting luminance characteristic.
