PURPOSE:To prolong discharging time of battery by providing an emergency lighting system with a battery activating means for forcibly charging or discharging the battery. CONSTITUTION:If an inspection switch 1 is operated when an AC commercial power supply E is not interrupted, a state equivalent to interruption of the AC commercial power supply E is brought about and a discharge lamp FL is lighted with a battery B through an emergency lighting circuit 6. At that time, a delay circuit 11 functions after closure of the inspection switch 1 to suspend reclosing for a preset time interval sufficient for discharging the battery B thus sustaining interrupted state of the AC commercial power supply E and discharging the battery B continuously. Consequently, the battery B is discharged forcibly and electrolyte in the battery B is activated. According to the constitution, memory effect can be prevented and discharging time can be prolonged. |
