Hair treatment compsn. to improve hair growth - contains succinic acid ester esp. di:ethyl succinate

Pharmaceutical and cosmetic compsn. contains apart from carriers, active ingredients and auxiliaries, a succinic acid deriv. of formula ROOC-CH2-COOR' R and R' = H, 1-4C (hydroxy)alkyl, but not both H. Pref. R and R' = 1-4C alkyl; esp. diethyl succinate (Ia) is used at 0.1-10 wt.% on total compsn. Pref. these contain at least one other active ingredient, e.g., a corticosteroid, beta blocker, oestrogen, vasodilator, vitamin etc., and 0.1-50 wt.% surfactant. Other opt. ingredients include polymers, thickeners, solvents, antidandruff agents, waxes, etc., and pref. pH is 4.5-9. USE/ADVANTAGE - Incorporation of (I) significantly improves growth of the hair. The compsns. are conventional shampoos, lotions, gel, dyeing formulations, etc. In an example, a hair gel comprised (by wt.) 19% poly(30) ethoxylated cetyl/stearyl alcohol; 8% poly(10) ethoxylated oleyl alcohol, 15% `Cetiol HE' (RTM for caprylic/capric acid ester of 12-18C satd. alcohol); 4% (Ia); 0.4% tocopheryl acetate; 2% panthenol; 4% glycerol; 0.6% perfume and 43% water.
