PURPOSE:To provide a preventive and curative medicine effective in eliminating free radicals excessively generating in the case of pancreatitis or acute pancreatitis and capable of effectively suppressing the crisis and progress of pancreatitis. CONSTITUTION:The preventive and curative medicine for pancreatitis contains, as an active component, a polypeptide having the activity of human adult T-cell leukemia-originated factor (human ADF), preferably a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence of formula or a polypeptide produced by adding a methionine residue to the N-terminal of the polypeptide. The polypeptide can eliminate free radicals of hydrogen peroxide, etc., reactivate a protein denaturated and deactivated by the free radical by refolding and prevent the organopathy caused by free radicals. The polypeptide can be produced by the culture of a human-originated cell strain, a gene recombination technique or a peptide chemical synthesis process.
