PURPOSE:To reduce the ripple current of a smoother capacitor and prevent discharge lamp from flickering by alternately switching the switching elements of a plurality of inverter circuits connected in parallel with a DC power supply. CONSTITUTION:Using a drive pulse generating circuit 13, drive pulses S1, S2 are impressed to the gates of switching elements 6, 10. If therein the period of the drive pulses is represented by T, the pulses S1, S2 are emitted alternately at the interval T/2, and the switching elements 6, 10 are turned on and off alternately. Accordingly ripples on the discharge current (i) to a smoother capacitor 2 can be made smaller than when the switching elements 6, 10 are turned on and off simultaneously. This allows reducing noises on the power supply line, preventing discharge lamps FL1, FL2 from flickering, and suppressing self-heating of the smoother capacitor. |
