PURPOSE:To enable prompt switching from a most decelerated condition to a most accelerated condition while maintaining the most decelerated condition without continuously maintaining a hydraulic pressure load. CONSTITUTION:A continuously variable transmission is provided, in which pulleys 39, 59 having fixed pulley pieces 41, 63, movable pulley pieces 43, 65, which can slidably move in the axial direction, and pulley grooves 47, 66, the width of which can be varied, provided between the fixed pulley pieces and the movable pulley pieces, are provided on a cylindrical body 63a and on an input shaft 15, and drive force is transmitted thereto so that speed can be varied, through a belt 45. When the low load of an engine is detected by a sensor 97, an electromagnetic cross valve 81 is switched so that the movable pulley piece 65 is driven to the deceleration side, to let a control oil flow in a cylinder part 73, and when the speed change status is in a most decelerated condition, movement of a piston 87 is inhibited by a ball cam 101, and the movable pulley piece 65 is locked, while the electromagnetic cross valve 81 is switched to let the control oil flow out of the cylinder part 73, and when the engine is in a high-load status, an actuator 89 is driven so that the locking is released. |
