PURPOSE: To provide a simple, high-reliable and inexpensive locking device for an position-adjustable steering column, leading to solving the problems of wear. CONSTITUTION: This locking device is provided with a support structure including two flanges with a column disposed therebetween, a means for locking the column by allowing the two planges to approach each other, and a tie 20 extending between the two flanges. One end of the tie 20 is associated with a locking member. The locking member includes a stopper member 24 for stooping the tie, an intermediate bearing member 25 brought into contact with one of the flanges, and a separating member 50 disposed therebetween. The locking device is also provided with an intermediate bearing washer 51 free to rotate around the tie 20 and move axially, a rolling-contact bearing means 52, at least one rolling member 53, and a means 54 for displacing the rolling member 53 along an inclined part 28 formed on one of the corresponding surfaces. |
