PURPOSE:To obtain a novel betaine lipid which is used as a cholesterol lowering agent, appetite-stimulating agent for alga-eating shells, and health food. CONSTITUTION:A betaine lipid of formula I (R1, R2 are a saturated acyl of 12-22 carbon atoms or an unsaturated acyl of 1-6 unsaturation degree, for example, the compound of formula II. The betaine of formula I is obtained by culturing a microalga which can produce the betaine lipid and belongs to Pavlova such as Pavlova lutheri in a medium, accumulating the lipid in the bodies of the alga and collecting it from the bodies. |
