PURPOSE:To obtain a camera incorporated type recording/reproducing device capable of corresponding to plural video signals with television(TV) standards. CONSTITUTION:An image pickup signal from an HDTV camera 1 is directly applied to an image pickup mode selecting circuit 2 and applied to the circuit 2 also after being converted into a standard(SD) signal by a system converter 3, a system controller 5 selects a mode in accordance with a TV standard, an output from the circuit is compressed by a compression mode 1 or 2 and the compressed signal is recorded in a tape 11 by a recording processing circuit 8 together with identification(ID) information such as the compression mode and other parameters. At the time of reproducing a recorded signal, the signal is extended in accordance with the ID information and the original HD or SD signal is restored. Thereby signal processing and control for recording/ reproducing corresponding to each TV standard can be automatically executed.
