PRODUCTION OF SILICON CARBIDE FIBER

摘要

PURPOSE:To provide a process for the production of a silicon carbide fiber especially having high strength and useful as a reinforcing fiber for composite material or as a heat-insulating material, etc. CONSTITUTION:A porous carbon fiber having a specific surface area of 100-2,500m<2>/g is reacted with silicon monoxide gas at 800-2000 deg.C and the obtained silicon carbide fiber is heat-treated at 800-2000 deg.C in a gaseous atmosphere containing an oxidizing gas.
