The method automatically adjusts the copying image density by controlling the votlage of lamp. The circuit includes the phot sensor (10) which detects light by the open-close action of a cover, the comparator (20) which compares the output signal of photo sensor (10) with reference voltage, the micom (30) which outputs the light control signal, the light driver (40) which drives the lighting lamp (50), and the lighting lamp which is drived by output signal of light driver (40). The device includes the 1st process which detects the current state of photo sensor (10), the 2nd process which drives the lighting lamp (50), and the 3rd process which drives the lighting lamp (50) by normal lighting voltage.
