<p>Use of ibuprofen, flurbiprofen and/or one or more of their pharmaceutically acceptable salt or salts for the treatment (including cosmetic treatment) of pruritus (itching) in animals, including human beings, by topical administration is disclosed. Also described are pharmaceutical compositions having anti-pruritic activity comprising ibuprofen, flurbiprofen and/or their salt or salts as an anti-pruritic agent or agents, preferably the only anti-pruritic agent or agents. The compositions may also comprise a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier, a thickening agent, a pH adjusting agent, a preservative agent, and a humectant. Use of ibuprofen, flurbiprofen and/or their salt or salts in the preparation of a medicament for treating pruritus and use of the above compositions to treat pruritus in animals, including human beings, is also claimed. Preferably, if the pruritus treated according to the invention has been induced by irradiation with UV-B radiation, the anti-pruritic agent is other than solely ibuprofen.</p> |
