PURPOSE:To efficiently heat the ends of ingots by heating the ends of the ingots under the heating conditions which can be varied by each zone via control means for fuel and combustion air capable of respectively independently controlling the ingot charging zone, heating zone and ejecting zone in a tunnel furnace. CONSTITUTION:The steel ingots of a high temp. are transferred into the tunnel furnace provided with combustion devices and the ends thereof are heated in the following manner: Said tunnel furnace is constituted of the charging zone 19 and heating zone 20 for charging and heating the ingots and the ejecting zone 21 for heating and ejecting the ingots. >=1 Pieces of the control means for fuel and combustion air which control said zones independently and have the control switch of <=1/2 the ingot length are provided to the respective zones 19-21 mentioned above. The heating of the ingot ends is executed by changing the heating conditions by each zone via the above-mentioned control means. As a result, the fuel consumption is improved considerably as compared to the conventional practice and the quality of the ingots and rolled products is improved by executing the adequate heating of the ingots. |
