PURPOSE: To obtain a garbage treating machine of a compact machine body capable of making decomposition treatment of garbage without using a large amt. of implantation materials, such as sawdust. CONSTITUTION: This garbage treating machine is constituted to make decomposition treatment of the garbage housed in a container 1 by the effect of the microorganisms by adding the microorganisms to the garbage and while agitating the garbage with rotating vanes 2. A filter 5 for partitioning the container above and below is installed below the rotating vanes 2 and a microorganism fixed bed consisting of porous ceramic grains 34 is disposed below this filter. A drain pipe 33 connecting to the opening at the bottom of the container is bent upward so that the water level in the container 1 exists at a position h higher than the filter. The water of decomposition produced by decomposition of the garbage passes through the filter, then through the microorganism fixed bed and flows down from a drain pipe into a tank 11.
