The invention relates to a bed or couch which has a resilient cushion which is filled with a compressible medium, interacts with slat elements in order to support the body and automatically adapts to the bodily shape of a lying person. A large number of rigid or resilient, rod- or slat- like slat elements 6 are incorporated or resiliently positioned 7 in a cushion 1 which is known per se, is filled with a gas (for example air) or with a granular solid 8 (Fig. 7), is covered by a skin 3 which yields under pressure or is wholly produced from a resilient material and, if appropriate, can be varied in terms of its yielding under pressure and/or in its expansion height by means of a pump and valve system 9, 10, 11 (Figs. 7, 8), being positioned transversely with respect to the longitudinal lying attitude of the body or permanently connected to the surface of the cushion 1. The slat elements also project beyond the cushion 1 at both sides, their maximum depth of depression each being defined by a resilient support 12, which is fitted to each longitudinal frame element 5 (Figs. 1, 7, 8, 9). <IMAGE> |
