<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording/reproducing device which is capable of judging the recording velocity quickly and exactly during search reproduction. SOLUTION: Envelope detection is performed to measure the frequency fDET of detection signals by amplifying the output of a magnetic head. When the frequency fDET is in the range of specified upper and lower frequencies, fUP and fLO, the reproducing mode accords with the recording mode and the recording speed is judged to be the one corresponding to the reproducing mode (S3). When the fDET is outside the above range, the recording mode is discordant with the reproducing mode and the recording speed is judged to be the one which does not correspond to the reproducing mode at that time (S4).</p> |
