摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optically anisotropic material having excellent optical characteristics with good productivity so that the material can be used as an optical compensating film with highly controlled orientation for a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: A pair of substrates have surfaces subjected to orientation treatment. At least one substrate is a transparent resin substrate comprising a transparent resin film or sheet subjected to orientation treatment by direct rubbing. At least one substrate has flexibility. A polymerizable liquid crystal mixture containing a polymerizable liquid crystal compd. is applied on the oriented surface of at least one substrate, and then the surface of the one substrate where the polymerizable liquid crystal mixture is applied and the oriented surface of the other substrate are disposed to face each other and laminated by using a roll under pressure while a spacer is interposed between the substrates. Then the polymerizable liquid crystal mixture in an oriented state is hardened with light to form an oriented hardened layer. Then the substrate except for the transparent resin substrate is peeled to obtain an optically anisotropic material.
