<p>The present invention relates to a method and a device to be used when carrying out trawling using an engine-powered trawler (A) in order to prevent a trawl which is overloaded or has caught on an obstacle on the sea-bottom resulting in the loss of the trawler. In accordance with the invention, this is achieved by a specially designed, propellant-operated cutting tool (1-5) which is preferably operated from the trawler (A) bridge, cutting the steel wire which in nearly every case forms the connection between the trawler and the trawl.
