The instrument panel includes two light sources (20,22) which are fed via a ganged pair (55) of variable resistances (53, 54), so that the combined output is constant at all settings for any particular setting of the variable resistance (50) in the common supply line (Vcc), which determines the overall illumination intensity. Optionally, similar control is effected by an electronic master unit. The driver selects colour and intensity, using two potentiometers. The lamps are mounted close together to emit a well combined beam comprising variable proportions of e.g. orange and green light, reaching the panel via reflectors, optical guides and/or optical fibre connectors.
