FIELD: methods for production of abrasive materials based on corundum with grain shape factor above 0.6. SUBSTANCE: abrasive materials of above-mentioned type may be used in manufacture of flexible abrasive means in the form of paper or textile cloth coated with abrasive powders of different grade of grinding and abrasive bodies in the form of grinding wheels used in abrasive machining of various materials, for instance, metals, wood, etc. Method includes loading into melting unit, continuously or by portion, initial component containing Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB> in the amount of more than 98 wt.%. In so doing, volume of supply of initial component per time and furnace capacity are selected so that melt phase formed in melting unit during melting process continuously measuring maximum height of 200 mm. Then melt is cooled, solidified, corundum block is removed from melting unit and ground to obtain the required fraction. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 10 cl, 3 dwgo
