<p>The present invention pertains to the field of protection devices used for increasing passive safety in a vehicle, and more precisely relates to a safety door having a protection beam integrated therein. The beam has an elongated cross section while its ends are hinged to the edges of the door so that said beam is capable of rotation. The beam is capable of assuming two positions, i.e. a compact position in which the cross section longer axis is vertical and a working position in which this axis is horizontal. The beam does not prevent the window to be lowered when in compact position, and its rigidity and resistance to lateral shocks are increased several times when in the working position. In one embodiment, the beam is in a working position when the window is shut or partially lowered. When the window is completely lowered, the lifting mechanism of said window or the window itself cause the beam to rotate in the compact position. In other embodiments, the beam is constantly in a compact position and, in case of an accident, said beam is biased into a working position by a lever connected to the door outer panel or by a gas from an airbag integrated in said door or a gas from a separate pyrotechnic charge.</p> |
