<p>A process for the preparation of 5-amino-2,4,6- triiodoisophthalic acid comprising the following steps: a) catalytic hydrogenation of 5-nitroisophthalic acid in basic environment, yielding an aqueous solution of the sodium salt of 5-aminoisophthalic acid, b) direct iodination of the sodium salt of 5- aminoisophthalic acid originating from step a), without further purification, with a solution of ICl in HCl following the addition of HCl and H2SO4 is described.</p> |
