<p>This invention is an apparatus and a method for hemostasis of an artery (12) having a puncture (72) after arterial catheterization, the apparatus comprising a catheter introducer (10) having a forward end (21), and a balloon (20) adjacent said forward end. The catheter introducer is constructed such that inflation of the balloon adjacent the forward end of the catheter introducer in engagement with an outer wall surface (64) of the artery, causes the forward end of the catheter introducer to be withdrawn completely from the wall of the artery, and spaced therefrom.</p> |
