APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CHANGING MODE OF STEREO AND MONO

PURPOSE: A method for converting a stereo/mono mode is provided to prevent a noise or a malfunction generated in an auto conversion by enabling a user to select an auto stereo/mono mode conversion or a forced stereo/mono mode conversion. CONSTITUTION: A user turns on a TV(S10) and selects a channel(S11). The user selects and inputs an auto stereo/mono mode conversion or a forced stereo/mono mode conversion(S12). A voice signal outputted from a mode voice processing unit is detected(S19) in case a forced stereo/mono mode conversion is selected(S13). The detected voice signal is determined whether to include a pilot signal(S20). In case there is not a pilot signal, the voice signal is confirmed as a mono mode(S21). In case there is a pilot signal, the voice signal is confirmed as a stereo mode(s22). An OSD screen is displayed to present a stereo or a mono mode(S23) and a stereo or a mono mode is selected(S24). A selected mode is outputted(S25).
