<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an obstacle detector for vehicle which can accurately detect obstacles without causing cost increase. SOLUTION: An obstacle detector for vehicle is provided with a signal processing means 3 which detects an obstacle Z based on signals A and B received from a plurality of sensor means 1 and 2. The processing means 3 incorporates detecting area setting means 31 and 32 which divide the peripheral area of a vehicle into a plurality of detecting areas, probability-of-existence computing means 33 and 34 which calculate the probabilities P and Q of existing obstacles in the detecting areas, and a probability distribution computing means 35 which synthesizes the probabilities R of existing obstacles in the detecting areas at every area. The obstacle detector also incorporates an obstacle detecting means 36 which discriminates the existing areas S of obstacles based on the probabilities R of existing obstacles in the distribution of probabilities of existing obstacles. The detecting means 35 discriminates the detecting area indicating a threshold or higher among the probabilities of existing obstacles in the detecting areas in the distribution as an obstacle existing area.</p> |
