The valve comprises an outlet pipe with a horizontal entrance (71) located above the water level and having a conical-shaped top end (81) engaging with a correspondingly shaped interior of a float (80). The float density ensures that the valve is lifted when the increasing thickness oil layer reaches a level above the pipe entrance, in order to maintain a flow connection. - A self-regulated valve for selectively transferring oil from a layer of oil (60) floating on water, preferably in the separation tank of an oil separator, comprises an outlet pipe extending through the water surface and up into the oil layer. The pipe has an essentially horizontal entrance located above the water level. The top end of the pipe has a conical-shaped exterior for a tight seal fit with a conical-shaped interior of a float. When the pipe and float are joined together tightly, the top end wall of the float covers the pipe entrance. The float density ensures that the valve is lifted when the increasing thickness oil layer reaches a level above the pipe entrance, in order to maintain a flow connection via this entrance. - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for an oil separation method using this valve. |
