PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid influences of temperature on the transmission curve by specifying the product of thickness and difference in the refractive index of a liquid crystal material layer for a light beam at least in the limit transmission state for light. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display panel is controlled in at least one limit transmission state, to have the product d.Δn of the thickness d and difference Δn in the refractive index of the liquid crystal material layer in the range of 0.45 to 0.50 μm at the temp. the panel is mostly used. In this method, when the wavelength λ is 590 nm, d.δn/λ is controlled to 0.76 to 0.85. The liquid crystal display device 4 has two transparent substrates 7 such as glass and these substrates have row electrodes 8 and column electrodes 9, respectively. Selecting voltage and data voltage are applied on the row electrodes 8 and column electrodes 9 by a driving unit 12 through driving lines 10, 11, respectively. A liquid crystal material 13 is present between substrates having protective coatings and/or alignment layers. Moreover, the liquid crystal display device 4 is equipped with polarizers 15 with the polarization axes perpendicular to each other. |
