This invention relates to a novel superconductor wire or tape, and method fo r manufacturing the same. In particular, the superconductor wire or tape consists of ceramic superconduct or material encased in a tube woven from fibrous material, hereinafter called the sheath. The fibrous material is chosen for its high tensile strength, its high melt/sublime temperature and its high resistance to interaction with key process ingredients and reagents.
