PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new catalyst capable of efficiently and inexpensively oxidizing and decomposing dioxins contained in exhaust gas discharged from an incinerator or the like even in a low temp. region to remove them. SOLUTION: A catalyst for removing dioxins contains α-MnO2 and further pref. contains at least one kind of a salt and/or oxide of an element selected from the group consisting of group VA elements, group VIA elements, ferrous elements and group IB elements.
