PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a methane fermentation apparatus in which the concentration of sludge in a methane fermentation tank is kept high even when precipitated sludge is withdrawn from the methane fermentation apparatus.SOLUTION: The methane fermentation apparatus comprises: a methane fermentation tank which includes an introduction part L2 for introducing waste water to be treated, a discharge part L4 for discharging the treated water, and a sludge withdrawal part L4 for withdrawing the precipitated sludge; and an agitation device for agitating the inside of the methane fermentation tank. An operation method of the methane fermentation apparatus comprises: a methane fermentation step of performing methane fermentation for a first predetermined time while agitating the waste water which is to be treated and is introduced into the methane fermentation tank; an agitation operation stop step of stopping the operation of the agitation device and leaving the methane fermentation tank to stand for a second predetermined time after the methane fermentation step; and a sludge withdrawal step of withdrawing the sludge through the sludge withdrawal part after the agitation operation stop step. |
