PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interactive television provided with voice controllable system for navigating complicated mean structure of an electronic program guide, so as to display an optimum amount of information for subsequent program selection. SOLUTION: A component, with which voice recognition and a natural language syntax analysis are performed, is used to extract the meaning of an input spoken by a user. A system stores the semantic representation of the electronic program guide, and the contents of the electronic program guide can be mapped into a plurality of grammars used by a natural language syntax analyzing part. Then, when the complicated menu structure of the electronic program guide is desired to be navigated, all that one has to do is to speak in a sentence of the natural language. The system automatically filters the contents of the electronic program guide and supplies display on the screen or synthesized voice to user, in response to the user request. |
