METHOD FOR PRODUCING HEPATITIS B VIRUS SURFACE ANTIGEN IN HIGH YIELDS ON CELL CULTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an antigen in high yields by which the production of the antigen is increased and the antigen equal to natural type HBs antigen (derived from blood plasma) on the physicochemical and immunological characteristics of the antigen can be obtained when an established cell line derived from the human liver cancer tissue producing hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBs antigen) is cultured to obtain the antigen from the cultured supernatant. SOLUTION: When the established cell line huGK-14 derived from the human liver cancer tissue producing HBs antigen is cultured to obtain the antigen from the cultured supernatant, an unusually high concentration of HBs antigen particles is productively secreted into the cultured supernatant by including dexamethasone and N,N-dimethylacetamide in the culture medium for production.
