SOLUTION: When the recording operation of a VTR 3 is instructed to a CPU 12 through a remote controller 2, the CPU 12 first turns on the power source of the VTR 3, and then the CPU 12 makes a CRT 17 display the message consisting of the characters W, A, I, T, I, N and G exhibiting that the CPU itself is in processing. After that, when the CPU 12 finishes the processing and the operation of the VTR 3 begins to start, the CPU 12 makes the CRT 17 stop displaying the message consisting of the characters W, A, I, T, I, N and G.
