INLAY FOR ARTIFICIAL KNEE JOINT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the risk of inclination of an inlay and the dislocation of a knee joint due thereto without causing additional wear or cold flow in the inlay. SOLUTION: An inlay 30 is provided in a full artificial knee joint as a semilunar component between a temporary tibial plate 20 and the femoral condyle 10. The inlay has a concave top face 36 and the top face functions as a slide bearing to the femoral condyle, when the knee is bent. The rear area of the top face of the inlay is convex in the longitudinal cross section. The convex area 40 of the top face extends beyond the length of nearly one fourth of the rear of the inlay. Due to the convexity of the rear area of the inlay's top face, a vertical force applied to the rear area of the inlay by the bent femoral condyle directs so as to penetrate the underside of the inlay, not to penetrate the vertical side edge, and does not apply any inclination moment to the inlay.
