PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable recording/reproducing apparatus in which the noise is not generated around an editing point. SOLUTION: A changeover switch 12 is pushed to the side of a 1st means 9 for detecting tape position errors, and after the tracking control is made by a tape running control means 13 in accordance with an output of the 1st detecting means 9, a 2nd means 10 for detecting tape positional error detects a signal of tape feeding error from a speed error signal outputted from a speed error detecting means 16, or detects the speed error signal from the time for detecting at least one timing signal read out from a reproducing means 8. A track shift control signal 11 applies an offset of the specified amount to the output of the 2nd detecting means 10 to provide a track shift control signal. Then the changeover switch 12 is pushed to the side of the track shift control means 11, and the tape running control means 13 controls the feeding o the magnetic tape 2 in accordance with the track shift control signal.
