PURPOSE: An ink cartridge is provided to be removable in an ink supply needle, to be loaded in an exact position to be communicated with a memory device and to easily change the capacity during using common components. CONSTITUTION: An ink cartridge comprises a container for storing ink therein, an ink supply port(4) formed at a leading end side in an insertion direction of the container, a memory device deposed on a first of two opposite surfaces parallel to the insertion direction of the container, a retaining member(5) disposed on the first surface and located at a trailing end side relative to the memory device in the insertion direction and another retaining member(6) disposed on the second surface. The memory device has an electrode for electrical connection to a recording device. The retaining member serves to selectively engage with the recording device. Another retaining device serves to selectively engage with the recording device also.
