摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display having gradation display characteristics that brightness is smoothly changed in response to a digital signal of a plurality of bits by using a reflective liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: An independent pixel contact 12 is provided corresponding to each of sub-pixels 4a, 4b and 4c. A scattered reflection part 10 is formed in the shape of recess or projection and performs scattered reflection of incident light from the surface of a display panel so as to approximate the light to the observing direction of a display image. Each of the sub-pixels 4a, 4b and 4c independently displays the maximum brightness display and the minimum brightness display by using the incident light to which the scattered reflection is performed. Pixel electrodes of the respective pixels 3 are divided corresponding to the sub-pixels 4a, 4b and 4c in consideration of arrangement of the scattered reflection part 10 so that displayed brightness in the observing direction of the display image is set as 2<0> :2<1> :2<2> in stages in the case of the maximum brightness display.
